Pond Monsters

October 25, 2009

I was hoping to get out in my canoe a few more times before I put it away from the winter, but it looks like it won’t be today. Much too windy for my weak little arms to handle.  The fall is a great time to be out in a canoe.  There are lots of ducks and geese around and when you paddle close to shore you can hear critters rustling through the leaves on the woods floor. Forest critters always sound bigger in the fall when they move through the forest litter on a calm day. You think it must be a fox or a raccoon and out pops a chipmunk.

The Lure of The Monster

There are some large creatures, though, that you must be aware of. They usually take the form of an obstacle that needs to be paddled around. Quite harmless unless you get too close to their long arms that can reach out and grab an innocent paddler and pull them under.

Don't mess with this one.

They sometimes jump right out in front of you.  I call them pond monsters.
